Josh Stewart breaks down his legendary 95-yard punt return against TCU—and admits no one should EVER field a ball that deep. 😂

🎥 Full interview: https://youtu.be/vBcGEOn3MS4

But when you’re in the Zone, things happen.

He breaks down what made him such a good returner, his favorite OSU memories, and more.

Josh Stewart Breaks Down His Legendary 95-Yard Punt Return vs. TCU
🔥 Rapid Fire with Josh Stewart!

Stewart came through OSU during the peak of the Uni Combos era—and he gives us his favorites, his toughest matchups, and the single best play he ever made in Stillwater.

Back in 2013, Stewart hauled in over 100 catches. Then, in that TCU game, he topped Barry Sanders’ punt-return record and passed Dez Bryant on the all-time receptions list.

All-time great player. Gold-caliber human being. 🤠

🔥 **Josh Stewart Exclusive Interview**

Josh Stewart came to OSU in 2011 and got his career started right away, catching passes from Brandon Weeden.

He talks about what it was like sharing the field with **Justin Blackmon**, and says Weeden threw the most **“catchable” ball** of any quarterback he's ever played with.

2011 was good.

**Then came 2012.**

Stewart broke out with **101 receptions, 1,210 receiving yards, 12.0 yards per catch, and 8 total touchdowns**, including a rushing TD.

And he gives a lot of the credit to Coach Todd Monken, who Josh calls **the greatest offensive mind he's ever been around.**

There's a lot more in this one.

Josh Stewart's Amazing 2012 Season
🔥 Another episode of Cowboy Conversations is here, and this one is a special one.

Josh Stewart is one of the greatest receivers in Oklahoma State history.
He had **101 catches in 2012** and finished his OSU career with more receptions than Dez Bryant — despite battling a foot injury during his senior season.

Stewart is also a **fan favorite** and, honestly, was probably the most requested former Cowboy I've heard from OSU fans. So I was really excited to finally have him on.
In this **Cowboy Conversations**, Josh takes us through his entire journey — from being displaced by Hurricane Katrina, to winning a state championship at Denton Guyer with JW Walsh and Jimmy Bean, to his incredible career at Oklahoma State, and eventually his time in the NFL.

But what really stood out to me was Josh the person.
He's the kind of guy who always put others first — someone who made the people around him feel valued, appreciated and special. The kind of teammate you'd want in the foxhole with you.
**This was an awesome conversation with an awesome Cowboy.**

Loved the tone that Coach Morris set when, literally, his first comment to the media this year was, "We're not very tough right now." Talk about setting the tone. That comment set a BAR that clearly defined what the expectations were going to be, and with so many new players, that HAD to happen right off the bat.

And it DID!

Then, the players actually have to believe it. Empty promises create a lack of respect that leads to a lack of discipline. So, once you set the tone/bar, then you have to be genuine in the way that you uphold the "non-negotiables". Of all the "non-negotiables", with his comment to the media, Coach Morris put toughness at the TOP of that list. LFG!

"Do you wanna be a part of something bigger than yourself, or worry about yourself?"

Powerful message from Nathan Gilsleider in our last podcast about how character gets revealed, not built, when you don't get what you want.

So, let's talk shop!

There is a big hurdle coming up for this staff, and one that I'm not sure the staff of the last couple of years could clear. It's all peaches and cream right up until you start publishing depth charts. Once the depth chart is made, players realize they either DID or DIDN'T get what they wanted.

So, for those who are disappointed, how will they handle a reduced, or certainly less glamorous, role? Especially if they came here in their last seasons as one last ride to their college careers. How will the coaches keep THOSE players locked in?

That's a very interesting dynamic that is worth following. The sense I get is that the message will be, jump on board and help in any way you can, or don't and get replaced.

There's a definite business side to this staff and seemingly clear bottom lines. And that is, we brought you in to do this or do that, and if you do it, you play. If you don't, someone else who does do those things is the one who gets the PT. So, that leaves the ball in the players' court. We've already seen multiple examples in terms of proof of that concept in action just in this camp alone.

And the players are going to be told the TRUTH, and they're going to be treated with respect. And they'll be given every tool and opportunity to prove themselves, and that's all anyone can ask for, IMO.

The mentality is to focus on what you "can do" and not what you "can't." The game plans will be detailed each week to find the matchups that favor OSU, and there will be those matchups EVERY week. It's just a matter of getting enough time to get to them and/or straight-up execution.

I think it's a big upgrade to think that there are at least some spots on the field, or certain skill sets of certain players, that can match up no matter who the opponent is. Then, when you match that with the "let's just go compete" mentality of refusing to back down to anything, it creates a lot of exciting possibilities.

It's About What You "Can Do", and NOT What You "Can't"

The safety position is one that is very intriguing. As Nathan mentions, the fact that Bodnar is the "nickel" tells you all you need to know about how well he's shown in camp, because Hammonds had a "coming out" party last year.

Hammonds was lightly recruited almost exclusively because he was thought of as an offensive player, so the transition to the defensive side is one that is just now reaching its potential.

He has experience with a 2-high defense at Virginia Tech similar to what OSU is going to run. Evan Jackson is extremely talented as well, and we've seen how effective Cam Epps can be, and Braeden Presley is SUPER talented as well, but he's just young.

I'm leaving some names off here that could help as well, so I'll leave it there, but in some ways, I think this IS the group that will determine the level of success this defense has.

If they can tackle in space, cover tight ends and slot receivers, and then shut down the alley in the run game, Jaleel and Malik, the interior linemen and the LBs, will have a FEAST.

And it will take a ton of pressure off the corners.

Nathan Gilsleider of Pistols Firing walks you through why the offensive line needs to create continuity. We are all SUPER excited about the skill positions, but we also all know that, without the big uglies paving the way, none of it works.

This line has talent, no question. But it also will have depth, and the depth will have positional versatility, which is super important. That lets you play the next-best player on the field, no matter who goes down. You're not cornered into putting out the next guy simply because he plays the position you're trying to replace.

It gives the coaches the ability to put out their best, most experienced, or most ready players on the field regardless of who goes down. And when you're talking about an offensive line, where continuity matters so much, having that kind of versatility can be a really big deal.

The continuity with this group should be a strength, and so should the depth and the versatility. I know we've been promised this before around here, so I get it if you're in the "wait and see" camp. But I'm on the opposite side of that. I think this group is going to be very good, and I'm going to need to see it before I believe otherwise.
