The mentality is to focus on what you "can do" and not what you "can't." The game plans will be detailed each week to find the matchups that favor OSU, and there will be those matchups EVERY week. It's just a matter of getting enough time to get to them and/or straight-up execution.

I think it's a big upgrade to think that there are at least some spots on the field, or certain skill sets of certain players, that can match up no matter who the opponent is. Then, when you match that with the "let's just go compete" mentality of refusing to back down to anything, it creates a lot of exciting possibilities.

It's About What You "Can Do", and NOT What You "Can't"

The safety position is one that is very intriguing. As Nathan mentions, the fact that Bodnar is the "nickel" tells you all you need to know about how well he's shown in camp, because Hammonds had a "coming out" party last year.

Hammonds was lightly recruited almost exclusively because he was thought of as an offensive player, so the transition to the defensive side is one that is just now reaching its potential.

He has experience with a 2-high defense at Virginia Tech similar to what OSU is going to run. Evan Jackson is extremely talented as well, and we've seen how effective Cam Epps can be, and Braeden Presley is SUPER talented as well, but he's just young.

I'm leaving some names off here that could help as well, so I'll leave it there, but in some ways, I think this IS the group that will determine the level of success this defense has.

If they can tackle in space, cover tight ends and slot receivers, and then shut down the alley in the run game, Jaleel and Malik, the interior linemen and the LBs, will have a FEAST.

And it will take a ton of pressure off the corners.

Nathan Gilsleider of Pistols Firing walks you through why the offensive line needs to create continuity. We are all SUPER excited about the skill positions, but we also all know that, without the big uglies paving the way, none of it works.

This line has talent, no question. But it also will have depth, and the depth will have positional versatility, which is super important. That lets you play the next-best player on the field, no matter who goes down. You're not cornered into putting out the next guy simply because he plays the position you're trying to replace.

It gives the coaches the ability to put out their best, most experienced, or most ready players on the field regardless of who goes down. And when you're talking about an offensive line, where continuity matters so much, having that kind of versatility can be a really big deal.

The continuity with this group should be a strength, and so should the depth and the versatility. I know we've been promised this before around here, so I get it if you're in the "wait and see" camp. But I'm on the opposite side of that. I think this group is going to be very good, and I'm going to need to see it before I believe otherwise.

Katelyn Hoppers and Sonora DeFini joined after the tough 2-0 Bedlam loss. Give these young ladies a TON of credit because these interviews, just minutes after losing to your rival, are not easy to do at all.

Really appreciate the totally pro way in which they handled themselves during a very emotional postgame. On to tomorrow, then the next game, which is the next opportunity to go 1-0. #GoPokes #OkState

Nathan Gilsleider of the Reload Podcast on Pistols Firing joins, and we take ya' “Around the Horn.” We go position by position and break down what we like and what we don't, and we talk some X's and O's.

We also break down the media availability and why this coaching staff has been so impressive to this point, but some of the natural barriers they'll have to cross are coming up very shortly as the depth chart defines itself.

Nathan does an incredible job of giving players, coaches, and fans a view all in one, so I hope you check it out. We'll be doing more of these crossovers, so let us know what you think. #GoPokes #OkState

I'd actually use this version. It sounds like you, not like a social-media copywriter trying to make it perfect. And for OState Daily, I think that authenticity is a strength.
The Roundup with Nathan Gilsleider
OSU has one of the most elite histories of running backs of any University in the country. Dating back to Bob Fenimore, Terry Miller, Ernest Anderson, Thurman & Barry, we've had the headliners. Many OSU fans may not remember that Charles Crawford, from Bristow, ran the ball in the NFL too, but happened to come along at a time at OSU when we had Hall of Famers.

Beyond those guys, many people forget that Gerald Hudson led the nation in rushing in 1990, and that David Thompson had back to back 1000 yard season in the 90s.

Then, another back that OSU fans don't remember enough is Reggie White, then Tatum, V-Mo, Savage, Randle, Hunter, Toston, Carson, Hubbard, Hill, Warren, and Ollie. Then a bunch of guys like Andre Richardson, Jamal Fobbs, and guys like that who were tremendous backs, and it's easy to argue that OSU truly is Tailback U. At least it's in the discussion! There's no question about that. #GoPokes #OkState

⬇️Mose Phillips Media Availability
https://youtu.be/O_VnpQqhHh8

Phillips is a senior safety who is transferring in from Virginia Tech and played a similar "split safety" type of defense. But, as he said, that doesn't mean this secondary is gonna sit back and let everything happen in front of them. This defense is gonna be very aggressive, which he finds to be the perfect mix for this type of defense.

Another thing that he likes about this defense is that you don't have to go "hunt plays". There are very well-defined rules for each 1/11th, so all anyone is ever going to be asked to do is their part. Which, as we have mentioned before, simplifies each individual's duties, which, in turn, allows them to play fast.

Phillips is a coach's son, and you can definitely tell by listening to him. He knew what he wanted, which was a defense that was a fit for him. That meant understanding the defense to begin with, and it's pretty clear he understands the one he's in now like the back of his hand.

He also feels like there is a very positive sense of urgency. It's a "win-now" mode, but there's no "panic" to that. Super cool young man to listen to talk about football. He knows his stuff, he knows what he wants, and he's found a great home for his one last ride. #GoPokes #OkState
