One concern that just can't be avoided is the fact that, while OSU has a lot of experience on its roster, very little of it, especially on the offensive side of the ball, has played in as hostile of an environment as Morgantown will be.

So, this team needs to do what OSU did to the Kyle Field crowd against Texas A&M in the 2nd half of the 2011 game. And that would be to do something early and keep doing it to suck the life out of the crowd.

If OSU is controlling the game, the crowd will not be as big of a factor as it possibly could be. And Rich Rod has made a living off of night games as the Head Coach of the Mountaineers, so we have to hope this group handles that aspect of the game well.

OSU vs. WVU: The 3rd Down Battle That Could Decide the Game

West Virginia had a great win against Virginia. There is no doubt about that. A couple of things behind that, though, might play in OSU's favor.

While the game was technically a road game for WVU, there were more Mountaineer fans than Virginia fans. And Virginia didn't test the secondary of West Virginia enough until the 2nd half. And when they did, like Coastal Carolina in Week 1, they had success.

There could be a million different reasons for that other than the Mountaineer secondary just not being great. But, with the way OSU can throw the ball, that has to be something you can draw some confidence in as an OSU fan.

Mike Asti, who is a WVU beat reporter and has covered all of the Pittsburgh sports scene for many years, takes you through a lot of the back-and-forth that this game should provide.

Can OSU Exploit West Virginia's Secondary? | Mike Asti

Jeff talks about how the 2027 class likely won't change much in the rankings, because kids are already pretty settled on where they're going, and there won't be that many official visits during the season. Most of those happen in the spring and summer. But after the Oregon win, a lot of offers went out for future classes, and that's where success can have its biggest impact.

The 5-for-5 rule will impact recruiting classes as well, because there will be players available now that wouldn't have been before that rule was put into place.

Whatever the rankings are, definitely don't worry about it for this year. It is what it is, and this staff has already proven that they'll find great players who aren't as highly ranked. But if/when this program starts having consistent success again, starting with the '28 class, things could pick up quite a bit.

Go "Under the Hood" of the philosophical side of Coach Lutz.

And, TBH, he spits some serious FAX in this clip.

Coach was asked how being such a "straight shooter" has worked with the transfer portal, when players can leave whenever they want. He was also asked how he views the pressure of making the NCAA Tournament in his 3rd year at OSU.

Of all the clips, if you want to understand why Coach Lutz has had success everywhere he's been, and why he believes that same approach can work at OSU, this is the one to watch.

Coach Lutz Gets REAL About the Transfer Portal, Pressure & His Philosophy

Michael Hawkins is NOT the same quarterback that OSU fans remember him being at OU. Fit plays such a huge role, and he's found THE best fit he possibly could have with Rich Rod and his offense.

Hawkins is very fast, so OSU will have to fit things correctly, because if they don't, he'll find a crease, and if he does that and gets to the 2nd or 3rd level, I'm not sure we can catch him.

One of the keys, or at least most interesting "Cat and Mouse" games, is how well OSU will be able to confuse his read progressions. Hawkins will be reading the last man on the line of scrimmage for his give/pull reads. If OSU can successfully change who that player is, both with pre-snap alignment and post-snap movement, that would create indecision in his decision-making. And that usually causes hesitation, and that's when you gain ground.

So, confuse the read player, attack the mesh point to reduce the time Hawkins has to make his reads, fit things properly, run everything sideways, then use the sideline as the 12th defender. That's a really good way to beat a player with his kind of speed.

At that point, make him throw into tight windows, and if he's able to do that well enough to win the game that way, you tip your cap, shake his hand, and tell him good job.

But while Hawkins can definitely throw the ball, what we've seen from him is throwing to open receivers who got open because the run game drew a lot of help. That's a different animal than being in situations where you have to throw, go through progressions, navigate a pocket, and complete passes into tight windows.

I'm not saying he can't do that, but I am saying that part of his game we haven't seen much of, so I think we all have to agree that no one is exactly sure how well he would perform in that scenario.

How OSU Can Confuse Michael Hawkins & Stop WVU's Run Game

🚨 HUGE Parsa Fallah Update!

Coach Lutz did not address the legal aspect of Fallah's situation, including his Temporary Restraining Order, but he did talk a LOT about his timeline as he continues to be available.

Coach did say that even though the TRO can be overturned, and no one knows when that will happen, he is preparing the team like they will be there.

They being both Parsa and Kashie.

Then, if/when they are determined not to be eligible, they'll make the adjustments at that point.

And honestly, that's about all you can do with situations like this.

So, Parsa, in case you forgot, tore up his knee at the end of last year and had to have surgery. So, he's not going to be back to any kind of activity until at least around the beginning of November.

There will then be an integration process from there.

So, if he's available and ready to go by Christmas, I think that would be a fair timeline. Anything earlier than that, in terms of being at full speed, would be pretty aggressive, IMO.

Regardless, just having his presence around—and his incredible personality and attitude—will be huge for this team and this program.
