OState Daily is live!
We are just MINUTES away from kicking off the Eric Morris era, and if you needed any more reason to be excited, just listen to Dalton Wasserman.

Wasserman is legit, so when he's THIS excited about so many pieces of this roster, it makes me want to keep a constant supply of orange Kool-Aid handy at ALL times.

And I AIN'T AFRAID to drink it on up either. πŸ˜‚

Dalton talks about Mestemaker, Hawkins, Bowick and the receiver corps, how highly ranked they are right now, and how highly ranked they could become.

This clip gets me FIRED UP!

LFG!!! 🀠πŸ”₯

Dalton Wasserman Gets OSU Fans FIRED UP Before the Eric Morris Era Begins!
Tulsa is a team that's going to want to play with pace, but not necessarily on Saturday. That's because if they get into a race and the possessions pile up for OSU, they're going to have a hard time keeping up.

So, the key for them will be finding the perfect balance between possessing the ball to keep the OSU offense off the field, but then picking the right spots to put the pedal down when they have OSU tilted.

Tulsa, I think, has to concede to OSU in several areas where OSU is just going to do what OSU does. That's a baked-in β€œOSU must be better” type of concept, and I think that's a fair statement to make.

But that doesn't mean they're automatically going to win.

Tulsa is very capable of making this a game. And the longer they hang around, who in the heck knows how this team of β€œmisfits,” as Coach Morris calls them, will handle that?

Or how well all these new players will be able to stay organized when the real bullets start flying and they have to go off-script.

And then, the first game is always stressful because you have NO IDEA what to expect in a lot of ways.

It's gonna be fun. Can't wait!

Can Tulsa Hang Around Long Enough to Test OSU? πŸ‘€
Dalton Wasserman of the Preferred Walk-On Podcast uses an even balance between analytics and the eye test.

We see it in weather all the time. No matter how many models you run, without a human being there to create the proper context for that data, it can become anywhere from inaccurate to useless.

So, the β€œeye test” will NEVER go away.

Good coaches know how to interpret data and then chunk it down into bites their players can actually absorb. And that's different for every player.

Having said that, the BEST coaches also know when to throw the notebook in the trash and use their β€œeyes” and their β€œfeel” at critical points in a game.

So, I say all of that to say this:

Analysts like Wasserman are my go-tos.

They don't just compile the data. They take the time to figure out what it actually means in terms of performance.

And part of that equation is understanding the value of FIT β€” sometimes even more than measurables.

This OSU staff has built a roster with plenty of impressive tangible measurables, but Wasserman agrees that perhaps the most exciting part of this team's potential is how well all the pieces seem to fit together.

Think about this:

This roster has OVER 90 new players.

Yet by the 2nd scrimmage, they were mostly evaluating who the depth pieces were because they ALREADY had a very good idea who the starters were.

Holy WOW.

And that doesn't happen unless these guys were recruited with a tremendous amount of FIT in mind.

Deion Imade tells the story about the lightning and rain that delayed the Tulsa game in 2011.

The game was delayed OVER 3 hours β€” and it was already scheduled to start at 9:00 PM!

So it didn't actually start until AFTER MIDNIGHT!

Deion talks about what the players were doing and thinking in the locker room during the delay, and what it was like when he finally realized, "Wait...we're actually gonna play this game."

Awesome stuff from the Cowboys' new sideline reporter!

THAT WAS A GAME! πŸ”₯

The Cowgirls got off just 12 shots last night, with 3 on goal, but in turn allowed SDSU only 14 shots.

There were 34 fouls, which is a LOT, and it shows just how physical and chippy this game was.

And, as Coach Carmichael explains, the Cowgirls had to make some X's and O's adjustments fairly early in the game. Give the coaches credit for diagnosing the problem and then problem-solving.

And give the girls even MORE credit for handling those adjustments and putting them into action.

There were 3 HUGE calls that went to review that changed the game.

On the one and only goal for OSU, a foul was called, but it was initially determined to be outside the box. After review, that call was changed, giving OSU β€” and specifically Addy Lang β€” a penalty kick.

The foul appeared to be right on the edge of the box. The player's feet were essentially on the line, but the contact occurred inside the box, so it looked like it was outside β€” but it wasn't.

Lang stepped up for the penalty kick and NAILED IT.

Later, OSU had a goal that hit the upright and came down either on the line or JUST over it. It was ruled no goal on the field, went to replay, and it was simply too close to overturn.

Then SDSU scored later to take a 2-1 lead, but an offsides call took that goal off the board.

So, we had those 3 huge calls, a scuffle between the two teams in the middle of the field, 34 fouls, 7 yellow cards, and a pretty intense confrontation between the SDSU coaches and the officials after the game.

If you weren't there, you missed out, because that game was INTENSE β€” and it was SUPER fun to watch.

Addy Lang...Absolutely CLUTCH kick last night, girl!

San Diego State came in last night having given up just ONE goal ALL YEAR, so goals were always going to be hard to come by. Then, the Aztecs scored early to take a 1-0 lead, and you could feel the tension.

Actually, more accurately, it was urgency!

If you were there, you could feel the urgency this OSU team played with last night, and it was very fun to watch. SDSU is very good, so it made you feel like, regardless of the scoreboard, last night was one you had to be pleased with as an OSU fan.

And I have to think the way the girls came together, it will serve as momentum moving forward. Especially on the "identity" side of things. This team found at least one identity last night, and that is tough. Well, and gritty!

Lang is a Junior Midfielder who came to OSU from Florida. She started her career at SLU and spent her High School days at Blue Valley Southwest in the KC Area. She played in 17 games last year, made 9 starts, and had a couple of assists as a Gator. #GoPokes #OkState
Absolutely CLUTCH Penalty Kick From Addy Lang!
Congrats to Avery Bass on making her 1st start in goal for OSU last night against San Diego State!

The Aztecs came in averaging over 2 goals a game, so she had quite a chore on her hands β€” and she handled it well.

She did give up a goal, but as she said in the postgame, she learned from it, and SDSU didn't score again.

Awesome Story Alert! 🚨

Bass is from Broken Arrow and spent the last 4 years at UCO, where she recorded 206 saves β€” the 2nd-most EVER in UCO women's soccer history.

And here's the really cool part: much of the UCO team was there last night to support her. Super cool deal!

She brings a ton of experience to this OSU team and admits that meshing all the transfers on this roster has been a process β€” but one that's becoming more defined with each game.

And, TBH, last night felt like it could be a springboard.

It was chippy. It was physical. And OSU DID NOT BACK DOWN.

Atta girl, Avery! Congrats on your GREAT career at UCO and your 1st start at OSU!
