The Cowboys hosted the Missouri Tigers Sunday afternoon in front of 10,000+, the largest crowd this season. They took down the Tigers 36-3 in a dual that was just as lopsided as the score would suggest. It was a great Senior Day as Cameron Amine, Caleb Fish, Dean Hamiti Jr., Dustin Plott, Luke Surber, Reece Witcraft, and Wyatt Hendrickson all wrestled their last matches at GIA.
Of course, all those wrestlers have larger goals, but it’s fun to exit in style on your last home dual.

Troy Spratley got the dual started against Walker of Mizzou, who entered the dual ranked #31 at 125. Spratley hit an outside single to start the scoring then rode out the rest of the 1st period. He took a 3-0 lead to the 2nd.
Spratley started in the down position in the 2nd then escaped, but continued to work the move and eventually scored a reverse instead of an escape to move the match score to 5-0.
Both wrestlers had done a good job on top, so riding time wasn’t a factor.
Walker escaped to start the 3rd, then got a stall point before Spratley scored with just 10 seconds left to get the major decision, 10-1.

Reece Witcraft hit a single in the 1st period, then kept working the right leg of Moore at 133, and eventually finished his takedown.
He almost took Moore to his back, then rode Moore for the rest of the period and racked up 1:16 of riding time.
Witcraft hit a duck under, kept working to get another takedown, then rode Moore again. His activity level is incredible when he’s on the offensive.
Moore scored 2 escapes so the score was 6-2 headed to the 3rd with 1:52 of riding time for Witcraft. Moore worked and got the riding time under 1:00 and had to either tilt Witcraft or cut him and try and take him down.
Neither were good, or even realistic options and Witcraft held on in the down position despite giving up a late stall warning point to win a tough match 6-3.
Great activity to score from Witcraft in his last dual at GIA, intelligent wrestling with the lead.

Kolter Burton wrestled tough at 141 against Nationally ranked Josh Edmond of Mizzou. Burton is a Freshman from Idaho, while Burton is a seasoned Junior for the Tigers.
Burton did not score any offensive points, but he did NOT back down and gave Burton a heckuva fight. Great experience for this youngster, it was enjoyable watching him scrap!

Carter Young shot a single on Gioffre of Mizzou at 149, then kept working the move until he got the 1st takedown of the match early in the 1st period.
Young then picked Young’s ankle from behind, kept him on the mat, and got a 2nd takedown to move the score to 6-0. He did a great job gathering 58 seconds of riding time before he intentionally cut Gioffre to move the match score to 6-2.
Young went to 1:21 of riding time to begin the 2nd period, before cutting Gioffre to make the score 6-3. With both wrestlers on their feet, Young then hit another quick takedown to move the score to 9-3.
Young got a penalty point, which cost him the major after riding time was added, plus a stall point. The final was 11-4.

Caleb Fish wrestled a nationally ranked wrestler at 157, Conway of Mizzou, and it showed because it was a great match that went down to the wire.
Neither wrestler scored on their feet in the 1st period, then Conway escaped after starting in the down position in the 2nd.
With the score 1-0 in favor of Conway, the match headed to the 3rd when Fish escaped to tie the score 1-1. Riding time was seemingly not a factor, but Fish changed that.
With less than a minute left in a tie match, Fish nailed a step behind for a takedown, rode out the clock, got 1 point of riding time, and won 5-1. Heckuva match!

Cam Amine got things started after intermission at 165 against another nationally ranked wrestler for Mizzou, Creed, who is from Collinsville.
Neither wrestler scored on their feet in the 1st, then. Amine started the 2nd in the down position & couldn’t escape until riding time hit well over 1 minute. With riding time in favor of Steed, Steed got a stalling penalty, so Amine took a 1-0 lead, then got an escape with just 8 seconds left in the period to take a 2-0 lead to the 3rd.
Steed had riding time racked up, so he had a minute to escape to secure that point, plus the escape point to tie the match but Amine rode long enough to get the riding time under a minute.
Amine won a very tough match 2-1! Both wrestlers had an escape, so the stall penalty assessed to Steed was the difference.

Dean Hamiti Jr. is a VIDEO GAME! He took down Mylin of Mizzou 3 times in the 1st period, took a 13-2 lead into the 2nd period, and then kept cutting Mylin and taking him down until he got the tech fall.
Hecuka way to finish at GIA!

Dustin Plott is the #3 ranked wrestler at 184 and didn’t take long to show his talent. He took Sinclair of Mizzou down very early in the 1st period then rode him for close to 2 minutes.
Sinclair got penalized on a stall to make the score 4-1, then Plott took him down again late in the 1st period.
Plott reversed Sinclair in the 2nd period and had a commanding 10-2, then got another takedown with 22 seconds left in the 2nd.
Plott got another takedown to move the score to 16-4, and was looking for the tech fall, but got taken down himself off of a good scramble from Sinclair.
When it was all said and done the score was 18-7. Great way to finish at GIA!

Luke Surber was a heavy favorite at 197 and needed just 5 seconds to complete his first takedown on a low single.
Surber hit a low single a few seconds later to take a 6-1 lead in the match, with Cassatt only scoring because Surber cut him.
Surber then hit a double leg with 35 seconds left in the 1st period to move the score to 9-2, with a ton of riding time racked up.
Surber completed his 4th takedown early in the 2nd period with a really explosive single leg, then hit a couple more takedowns to win via tech fall 22-6. Total Dominance!

Wyatt Hendrickson pinned his opponent in less than 1 Minute, and, to be honest, I’m not sure how the match lasted that long.
This dude road-grades everything that is in front of him!
Sunday was the last home dual for the Cowboys, but there is still a lot of dual action left in the season. Next up the Cowboys travel to Little Rock, Arkansas to take on UALR, then, it’s Iowa. Can’t Wait!
