One "unintended" consequence of Coach Gundy's comm

One "unintended" consequence of Coach Gundy's comments from the Press Conference Monday is that I think it's going to be a reason why some, if not many, choose to not come to Senior Day, the last home game here in a couple of weeks. For that reason alone I think he needs to make the most sincere attempt he can to reconnect with the fans. Then, if he did, I would hope the fans would show up to honor the Seniors.

Keep in mind, these Seniors have done a lot for OSU, and, IMO, they deserve our support, regardless of the current situation, or your thoughts on Coach Gundy at the moment.

To each their own, but I will not miss a single snap, no matter how bad it gets. I never have let struggles keep me away, and never will, but I understand all that feel differently, so not trying to preach, because everyone has their reasons. Personally, it would be a very sad sight to see a 1990s-type crowd on Senior Day after all the winning we've done in the last 20 years with him at the helm.

It's a slippery slope to stay away, for whatever reason, and it's almost impossible to get back once you lose it, as we've seen with basketball. #GoPokes #OkState

Although I think the effect of having more video to evaluate our younger players will be minimal, I do think it will be quite a bit more substantial of an evaluation tool for other schools for Maealiuaki Smith. Smith is likely going to be behind both Garrett Rangel and Zane Flores next year, so you know other schools will be watching every second he plays and evaluating him very heavily.

If he plays the next 2 games and does very well, it's possible, if not likely, that OSU just handed another school, Smith, in their lap by giving them something to evaluate him by. But, having said that, he still needs to play, and that, IMO, shouldn't be a factor in determining his playing time.

There should never be a situation where a coach intentionally limits a players playing time in an attempt to limit their exposure and subsequent chances at bettering themselves. That would be a really bad look in today's climate of College Athletics. #GoPokes #OkState

The Bowl Streak is over, so there really is no downside to playing as many young players as you can. Well, other than the fact that other schools will have more video to evaluate these young players on, which may make them harder to resign for next year.

But, I would have to think that effect would be minimal and far outweighed by the experienced gained in the next 2 games. #OkState #GoPokes

By my count, OSU played 13 Freshman and 6 Sophomores last night. The central focus of the youth movement is at the QB position and Maealiuaki Smith, and while I think he was inserted too late in the game, I do think there was a very good attempt at playing as much youth as possible last night. #GoPokes #OkState

TCU is good against the pass as evidenced by the fact that they average giving up the 3rd fewest pass yards per game of any defense in the Big 12. They also have the 4th most sacks of any team in the league (18), and have forced the 5th most fumbles.

So, their defensive efficiency numbers aren't bad at all (5th in the Big 12). Although things don't always work as they look like they should on paper, I think it's safe to say that, if OSU can't run the ball today, this game will get away from the Pokes. #GoPokes.

TCUs defense has been close to as porous as the Ok

TCUs defense has been close to as porous as the Oklahoma State defense this year. The Frogs are allowing 29.2 points per game, which is a touch less than 2 points less per game than OSU.

While OSU is the worst defense in the Big 12 against the run by a wide margin (248 yards per game), TCU is the 2nd worst giving up 176.2 yards per game.

If Ollie were to get going, today would be the day. If OSU can't figure out a way to generate some type of rush game it would add another disappointment, maybe the biggest, to the growing list of disappointments on the year. #GoPokes #OkState

TCU is 2nd to last in the Big 12 in rushing, and,

TCU is 2nd to last in the Big 12 in rushing, and, actually averages about 5 yards less a game on the ground than OSU. However, much like I have been wishing for on the OSU side, the Frogs have started using their 6'5 Receiver, Savion Williams in some Wildcat packages to help with their run game.

And he has turned into their 2nd leading rusher on the team this year.

Williams also has a 144-yard rushing in the last 2 games, one being against Utah, so it has borne fruit.

Cam Cook is their leading rusher and averages right at 4 yards per carry, so he is a good runner despite their run game not being very good.

It will be interesting to see the chess match between TCUs' run game, which isn't good, vs. OSUs' run defense which is less "isn't good". #GoPokes #OkState

Josh Hoover is very accurate as a passer (67%), and makes a lot of plays (21 TDs), but he will throw the ball to the other team (8 Ints) if you force him to make mistakes. Also, unlike many of the other QBs the Cowboys have faced recently, he is not a runner. He can scramble to make some plays in the passing game, but he typically doesn't hurt the other team with his legs by taking off and running. He likes to sit in the pocket and hit his 1st option, which typically becomes available off of an RPO look because TCU is a pretty heavy RPO team.

So, the "man" coverage on the back end is a little "safer" this week, because when our secondary has their back to the QB, Hoover won't expose that as much by running and gaining yards before they realize he took off.

As a result, the D-Line can be a little more aggressive in their rush because losing their lane won't be as costly, and the LBs can help more in the Blitz packages or coverages with less "spy" duty.

Hoover likes to make quick decisions and quick throws, so the Cowboys need to play tight/press coverage, take away his first read, make him feel the rush, then get him moving and force him to throw on the run. #GoPokes #OkState

TCU has the 5th best offense in the Big 12 in terms of points per game but averages the MOST passing yards per game.

So...Can OSU get enough pressure without blitzing to disrupt the timing of Josh Hoover, and can our secondary hold up in "man" coverage? Those are 2 keys to watch in today's game as those questions get answered. #GoPokes #OkState

Terry Miller Interview
What an unbelievable honor it was to get to speak with one of the ALL-TIME OSU greats, Terry Miller. Miller was a two-time All-American, he finished in the top 5 in the Heisman twice and was placed in the Ring of Honor last year, and in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

Incredible player and man, and it was a tremendous honor to get to celebrate him during this interview process.
