The No. 12-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball, according to D1, continued their strong and hot streak Friday night, erupting for four home runs by four different players. Ruby Meylan gave the Cowgirls ANOTHER dominant pitching performance and continues to pitch like she is one of, if not the best, pitchers in the country. OSU won 8–1 in front of a crowd of 1549 to move to 36-13 on the year, and 15-7 in Conference play.
Cowgirls Break It Open in the 4th, Cruise Late
For three innings, the game settled into a classic pitchers’ duel. Ruby Meylan set the tone early, striking out five of the first nine Kansas hitters and allowing just one baserunner through three scoreless frames. Kansas starter Chloe Barber matched her early, keeping Oklahoma State off the scoreboard despite a walk in the first.
That changed real fast, and real loudly in the fourth inning.
Oklahoma State showed patience and discipline at the plate in the 4th inning, and once they scratched, the dam opened. After a 1-out walk to Rosie Davis, Lexi McDonald got an infield single, Amanda Hasler got hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Tia Warsop delivered the first big blow with a two-RBI single to right. Moments later, Audrey Schneidmiller followed with another two-run single, capping a four-run inning, and that’s all Ruby Meylan would need.
From there, the Cowgirls never looked back.
Power Surge Extends Offensive Trend
Oklahoma State’s offense has leaned heavily into its power in recent games, and Friday was a clear continuation of that trend. The Cowgirls launched four home runs across the fifth and sixth innings:
Claire Timm (8th HR of season) – solo shot in the 5th
Rosie Davis (11th HR) – solo shot later in the 5th
Madison Hoffman (3rd HR) – pinch-hit blast in the 6th
Aubrey Jones (4th HR) – back-to-back homer following Hoffman
That surge turned a 4–0 lead into an 8–1 rout in just two innings.
The long ball has become a defining trait of this lineup, with two different hitters, Amanda Hasler and Rosie Davis, both with double-digit home runs, and Claire Timm has eight. The Cowgirls have shown power and the ability to do damage throughout the order.
How Kansas Scored
Kansas’ lone run came in the sixth inning after finally breaking through against Meylan:
Kadence Stafford doubled to deep center
Anna Soles followed with an RBI double to left-center
Despite the extra-base hits, the Jayhawks struggled to string together offense, finishing with just five hits and striking out eight times.
Dominant Pitching Performance
Ruby Meylan Sets the Tone
Meylan delivered another ace-level outing:
6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K (86 pitches)
Improved to 25–6 on the season
Ruby Meylan is not just pitching well right now—she’s dominating at a level that’s defining Oklahoma State’s late-season surge. This five-start stretch, starting with the game at Texas through last night, is one of the most efficient and overpowering runs you’ll see from an ace in college softball. And, then add in her performance against OU, and she’s been absolutely incredible.
Elite Production Over Five Starts
Across her last five outings:
- Record: 5–0
- Innings: 34.0
- ERA: 0.62 (3 ER)
- Hits Allowed: 17
- Strikeouts: 28
- Walks: 7
- WHIP: ~0.71
That’s ace-level production in every sense, highlighted by not allowing hitters on base, elite run prevention, and consistent swing-and-miss to gather strike outs.
Rylee Crandall…Atta Girl!
Crandall handled the seventh inning cleanly:
1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER
TOSU is likely going to have to have Crandall and Preslee Downing pitch well down the stretch to make it back to OKC. Meylan could, theortetically do it by herself, but that would be a tall order.
Offensive Standouts
Oklahoma State produced seven hits, but maximized damage with power and situational hitting.
Top Performers:
Tia Warsop: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, SB
Audrey Schneidmiller: 1-for-2, 2 RBI
Rosie Davis: 1-for-2, HR, 2 R, RBI
Claire Timm: 1-for-3, HR, RBI
Madison Hoffman: 1-for-1, HR, RBI
Aubrey Jones: 1-for-3, HR, RBI
The balance throughout the lineup continues to stand out, with production coming from both starters and bench contributors.
Kansas Pitching Struggles
Kansas used three pitchers, but couldn’t contain OSU’s offense:
Chloe Barber (L, 8–7): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Lizzy Ludwig: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER
Samantha Claire: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K
Barber was effective early, but the Cowgirls got to her with all the different ways they pressure a pitcher in the fourth inning. Plate discipline, taking your hits, timely hitting, and then finishing things off with the long ball has defined this heater for the Cowgirls, and last night added another feather into that cap.
The Anaconda Effect
The Cowgirls slowly squeezed the life out of Kansas, and eventually put them out of their misery towards the latter part of the game.Putting games away is a hallmark of great teams, and ones that are hungry, and OSU squarely did that last night.
Early innings (1–3): Pitching duel, minimal offense
Middle innings (4–5): OSU broke through with situational hitting and power
Late innings (6–7): Cowgirls extend lead, pitching closes the door
Oklahoma State’s ability to convert limited opportunities into big innings was the defining difference.
Standings and What’s Next
Oklahoma State: 36–13 overall, 15–7 Big 12
Firmly in the upper tier of the conference standings
Kansas: 33–17 overall, 13–9 Big 12
Oklahoma State will look to carry momentum into today’s game, a game that has been tricky throughout the season, because Ruby Meylan will not be in the circle. Last weekend, Rylee Crandall and Preslee Downing did the job, and they’ll need to continue that momentum today if the Cowgirls want to clinch the series on Saturday..
