Cowgirls Out Duel UCF

The Cowgirls scored 19 points in the first 5:20 of the game Saturday at UCF, they scored 25 in the first quarter and 72 overall, and controlled the scoreboard from pretty much start to finish.

4 different ladies scored in double digits, led by Staille Heard who had 23. Anna Gret Asi added 15, Tenin Magassa had 12 and Micah Gray had 11 as well.

OSU shot 30 3-pointers and made 10 of them, and had 4 different players make at least 1 3-pointer. But, despite being so deadly from deep, the Cowgirls also scored 32 points in the paint, led my Magassa down low who poured in 12. Micah Gray, Stailee Heard, and Anna Gret Asi aided that cause as well by getting to the rim with dribble penetration, and finishing once they got there.

OSU also added 20 points off of turnovers, 14 Fast break points off of 12 steals, 19 assists, 17 second-chance points, and shot above 60% in the first quarter to gain a 10-point lead that they never looked back from.

The big win in Orlando was a pretty great way to bounce back from the disappointing loss Tuesday at Houston, and you could tell this team was ready to make amends with the quick start they got off to. OSU is now 15-3 overall, and sits in a tie with West Virginia at 3rd place, both with 5-2 records.

Double-Double Alert! Again!

Staille Heard led the Cowgirls in scoring with 23 points & had 10 boards to register yet another double-double. She also had 4 steals, 3 assists, NO turnovers, and shot above 50% from the floor. Heard shot the ball from range, drove the ball, and finished, scored from mid-range, and showcased just about every skill imaginable for a scorer.

What a player!

Click to watch Asi Drain some 3s

Anna Gret Asi was on fire yesterday. She made 4 of her 7 3s and had 15 points, 2 steals and 4 assists. She also used her dribble and some patience to get to the rim when they started closing out on her, so she was much more than just a jump shooter.

Tenin Magassa made the most of her opportunities putting in 5 or her 8 shot attempts, and gave the Cowgirls 12 points. She is very good in the low post, no doubt, but, she’s also exceptionally good running the floor and scoring in transition, or secondary breaks before the defense sets up. Having a “big” that can run the floor like she can, and can score with either hand is super valuable.

Micah Gray was awesome on Saturday!

She spotted up to shoot, ran the floor, drove the ball, and scored at the bucket. Gray has a pretty incredible set of scoring skills and put them on display in Orlando, and it netted her another double-digit game with 11. She also added a steal, 2 assists and 5 rebounds.

What’s Next

With the win, the Cowgirls moved to 15-3 overall on the season and 5-2 in Big 12 play. Dayum wish we could have the KU and Houston games back, but, that’s done and in the past and the only that the ladies can control is what is going to happen in the future.

Speaking of the future, next is TCU who will be heading to Stillwater as the 10th-ranked team in the Country with just 1 loss overall on the season. They are also tied with KState on the top of the Big 12 standings with an undefeated record so far in Conference play.

If you like comparisons, the Lady Frogs just played and beat UCF recently too, and beat them by 9 at home. So, while they are a “Cream of the Crop” type opponent, they are one that the Cowgirls can beat.
