The Cowgirls, like all great teams, continue to find ways to win ball games. We all know how talented this team is, but it is also showing to be gritty and cohesive. Talented teams win a lot of games, talented teams with “grit” and chemistry win championships.
Despite a hit here and there, the game made it all the way to the bottom of the 5th scoreless before all of the drama took place.
In the bottom of 5, Lexi McDonald, a Sophomore from Silo, spiked a base hit up the middle in a pinch hit at bat, then after a wild pitch, a ground ball by Tallen Edwards broke the ice for the first run of the game.
Lexi Kilfoyl took her 29 inning scoreless streak into the 6th inning on Wednesday night, and, despite the fact that the Lady Shockers did score 3 in the 6th, none of those runs were earned. Her ERA is down to 0.83, her Batting Average against is .143, and she has 38 Ks just 7 walks.Â
Ivy Rosenberry relieved Kilfoyl and came up clutch in the clutch. Rosenberry moved to 5-0 on the year by pitching the last 2 innings, and started her night by striking out the first 4 of the 6 hitters she faced.Â
In total, Rosenberry threw 2 innings scoreless innings, had 4 Ks, 0 walks, and her ERA is down to 0.23. She’s also registered 37 Ks to just 8 walks.
The Cowgirls finally ended the game in the bottom of the 8th inning when Karli Godwin led the inning off with a single to left center, then Freshman Rosie Davis spiked the game winner into right field.Â
Karli Godwin pulled one down the line, spiked one up the middle, then drilled one into the gap. She put on quite a display on using the entire field, something she is very good at, and, she got the rally started in the 8th. In total, she racked up 3 Hits and is hitting .379 on the year, OPS 1.047. And…She is JUST a Freshman!
Rosie Davis Walked It Off! And, guess what, it was a line drive to the opposite field. No surprise here! Last nights game wasn’t perfect, by any means, but, showed, once again, that this team is not just talented, they are equally as “gritty”. That absolutely matters
With the victory last night, the Cowgirls moved to 18-2 on the season moving into Big 12 play, which starts this weekend. OSU will be traveling to Waco, to take on the Lady Bears who are 13-3, in a Friday, Saturday, Sunday series.Â
